If blantently located on your exposed skin, it can most certainly lead to certain embarrassment in social situations. This unsightly example is why many affected individuals constantly look for wart removal treatment.

What causes warts?

Warts are caused by viruses that lead to growths in the top layer of your skin (thus forming the wart).

The viruses are spread through direct contact with a wart, and children are the most vulnerable especially because they generally have a lot of skin contact with others when they play.

Common warts generally form where the skin has been broken, for example around the fingernails where people sometimes chew.

Different wart forms

Seed warts - warts with black dots inside that look like 'seeds'

Plantar warts - warts that form on the bottoms of you feet. They cause much discomfort and pain when walking because the individual's weight pushes them back up into the skin. This is similar to having a large grain of sand in your shoe while walking.

Flat warts - flat warts are generally smaller and flatter than most other warts. They are also called juvenile warts because they are typically small and smooth. They generally form in large numbers that can be as high as a hundred. In children, they usually grow on the face. In adults, they tend to form on the chin and around the lips.

Filiform warts - long, skin-colored warts that commonly grow around the eyes, nose and mouth. They sometimes appear shaped like 'fingers'.

Are warts permanent?

Typically, a wart can heal over variable periods of time. It can take any where from weeks, months and even years for your skin to recover. It all depends on the individual's immune system.

Treatment

Lasers - Doctors commonly use lasers to get rid of warts, but this procedure can be quite expensive.

Drugs - Bleomycin is a drug commonly used to treat cancer, and sometimes warts as well. This method has been associated with numerous side effects and is not commonly recommended.

Natural methods - There are some highly successful wart cures that can be naturally applied. Most people choose this method because it is inexpensive, and easy to apply. Results can typically be observed in 3 days. [read more...]
